Amongst many other awards, Brisbane’s Lucent Gasworks in Newstead has recently won the much prized and coveted “Best National High-Rise Apartment Building – 2018 at the Master Builders’ National Excellence in Building and Construction awards held last year in Adelaide on November 24. Brisbane luxury developer, Cavcorp proudly accepted the award with Denita Wawn, CEO of Master Builders Australia stating “They are deserving winners of the sought after award which attracts entries of the highest quality from the nation’s best builders”.
Saying that, Denita’s comments genuinely are not understated as the Lucent boasts an impressive variety of luxurious features usually seen only on “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” styled TV shows!
The exterior of the building features curved concrete balconies, shimmering champagne metallic sliding screens surrounding 21 levels of ground and upper ground retail spaces and 190 apartments. However arguably the most impressive feature which sets this building apart from many luxurious apartment complexes is the rooftop Olympic sized swimming pool! Cavcorp’s vision and dedication to creating a building dedicated to health and wellness has been met with over two acres of landscaped gardens, water features, a detox sauna and spa, commercial sized fitness studio and yoga lawn.
Blending in beautifully amongst the opulence is the Lucent’s integrated CCTV, Video Intercom and networked security solution – all of which are Dahua. The entire security integration was installed by well-known security installation specialist – Massimo Guida from Mussi Electrical. Massimo, who makes up one of Queensland’s many exceptionally experienced security professionals, utilised his knowledge and experience in complete bespoke security solutions in order to ensure that all the security requirements for this job were met. Massimo, well aware of the developer’s vision was surprisingly not overwhelmed at the job at hand and instinctively turned to his partners in security, the team at Seadan Security, Albion (Brisbane) – lead by Seadan’s long standing business manager, Michael Madigan. When pressed as to why Seadan, Massimo states, “I’ve been dealing directly with Michael and his team for the past 10 years and in that time have developed an excellent working relationship with the team. They are always readily available to offer product support and advice on design and construct solutions. These guys always go the extra mile to ensure our installs run seamlessly.”
With Michael Madigan’s guidance, the monumental task at hand at scoping this once in a lifetime project was given to Seadan’s, Casey Jobben who specialises in the design and implementation of bespoke integrated security solutions. Although challenging, the brief was simple, “to ensure that the CCTV and video intercom systems be not only networked and seamlessly integrated through cutting-edge technology, but most importantly to ensure the security components were aesthetically pleasing”. To win this job it had to be beautiful, just like everything else in this building!
When probed as to which solutions he though most appropriate, Casey adds “This really was a challenge to overcome, however I thought that in order to accomplish everything in the brief, there needed to be a single branded solution in order to ensure a worry-free integration. So with this in mind, I thought that Dahua was the obvious choice. I’ve worked on a number of jobs involving many brands over the years and some of the best results I’ve had whilst at Seadan have been when I’ve worked with both Dahua for CCTV and intercom”…
Consequently, over 250 CCTV cameras were installed throughout the Lucent’s commercial and residential levels, from the rooftop pool deck to the basement and gym. Whilst discussing the Lucent’s income solution, Casey states. “ Unlike CCTV where the objective was for the equipment to be discreet, the intercom door stations and monitors needed to be not only prominent, but to also be a technological “feature” of each room. So for that reason, I chose the Dahua Black Glass Video Intercom Door Station which complimented the architecturally designed foyer of the building. To ensure the modern and minimalistic look of all 198 individual apartments, we choose to integrate the Dahua 7 inch Colour Monitor which complimented each ultra-modern apartment extraordinarily well”
Casey further adds, “When you organise the security for a job of this calibre, it’s almost inevitable to come across a couple of hitches along the way… But what impressed me mostly was the way that the entire solution just worked seamlessly. We used the Dahua Network switches utilising fibre network as well as copper and it integrated the full IP intercom and IP CCTV solution alongside a Rosslare Access Control system with a headend management platform solution. The fact that we had nearly all of these components in stock also made our life all that more easy… Also, I know that becasue we used Dahua for most of the job, I know that the products will stand the test of time and still remain cutting edge for many years to come”.
